Meet the Local Family Behind Montville Animal Hospital

Montville Animal Hospital is owned and operated by Drs. Paul and Kara Schubert, a husband-and-wife veterinary team who have lived in Montville for 12 years. Together, they purchased Montville Animal Hospital in 2021 and are proud to continue its long-standing reputation for compassionate, personal veterinary care in Montville and the surrounding communities. Dr. Kara and Dr. Paul are raising their two children in Montville, along with their three cats, Hobbes, Hamish, and Maizie.

As a local, independent, family-owned veterinary hospital, we believe veterinary care should feel personal, familiar, and rooted in the community — not corporate or one-size-fits-all.

Dr. Paul Schubert

Dr. Paul Schubert grew up in Haworth, New Jersey. He studied biology at Villanova University before earning his veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland, where he graduated with honors in 2011.

After graduation, Dr. Paul was selected for a highly competitive internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey, where he worked alongside specialists and gained experience with a wide variety of complex medical and surgical cases.

His professional interests include surgery, internal medicine, and ophthalmology. He enjoys the problem-solving side of veterinary medicine and values clear communication with pet owners so families understand their options and feel comfortable with the plan for their pet.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Paul enjoys mountain biking, rock climbing, woodworking, and botany, especially orchids and cacti.

Dr. Kara Schubert

Dr. Kara Schubert grew up in Schenectady, New York. She received her degree in biology from Boston University before earning her veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland, graduating with honors in 2012.

Dr. Kara first got her start in veterinary medicine through wildlife rehabilitation, which helped shape her interest in careful handling, pain management, wound care, and the individual needs of different species.

In addition to caring for dogs and cats, Dr. Kara has many years of experience in exotic pet medicine and surgery, including rabbits, guinea pigs, small mammals, and reptiles. She has a special interest in pain management, wound care, dermatology, and the unique medical needs of exotic pets.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Kara enjoys vegetable gardening, cooking, and being the resident crazy cat lady at work and at home.

The Schuberts live in Montville with their two children, two Devon Rex cats named Pangur and Hobbes, and menagerie of geckos and frogs. They also have a pitbull named Toby who was rescued as a bait dog from a dog fighting operation and now lives in the lap of luxury.

In loving memory of Toby — he was the best “bad” dog.
